Dear Reader,

 

Medicines and their availability have always been business driven. The digital and social media flourish has now laid a carpet for politicising even health advice. The current coronavirus pandemic is a glaring example.

 

We have both the naïve Indian as well as the pseudo-intellect individuals who are currently bombarded and amenable by advice regarding over-powering coronavirus. Adding to the complexity are recommendations coming from doctors, dieticians, housewives and God-men. This is not all – the medical doctors could allopaths, vaids, homeopaths, hakims and who else and who not! The story does not end here. The allopaths could be from any fraternity including family doctors, physicians, and the news media have even interviewed cardiologists.

 

Imagine the confusion being created, and more so the assimilation of the digitally disseminated messages, by the gullible patient and potential patients depending upon his understanding, mindset and ability to differentiate the right from the wrong advice – let alone detect the inaccuracies.

 

Having interacted with patients, medical colleagues, and COVID-19 treating specialists, it is amply evident that the biases each and everyone harbours dictates not only advocating the right treatment approach by healthcare providers, but even acceptance of the advice by patients having COVID-19 positive results but albeit asymptomatic!

 

The fight against coronavirus can be simply put as 2-fold approach.

 

§  Increase immunity: Only vitamin C (500 mg) and zinc (20-25 mg elemental) are the real pillars of activating our defences effectively against the invading virus and eliminating the same sans further health-compromising consequences.

 

§  Take antivirals: When the immunity is compromised the invading virus causes the dreaded disease COVID-19. Now it is logical to kill coronavirus (nCoV) with anti-viral on immediate detection, and before it wreaks havoc! It is totally surprising why most doctors wait for symptoms to worsen before starting antivirals. It is similar to postponing starting appropriate antibiotics for TB or delaying taking the fever pill till body temperature flares up!

 

All other household blends, and mixes and match of hundreds of formula available for coronavirus prevention and COVID-19 treatment but addition to Vitamin C + Zinc combination for prevention, and anti-viral necessary for treatment. Any compromise or deviation in such plan of action could either spell disaster or require the God’s blessing to tide over.

 

A WORD OF CAUTION: Just like we have pro-government and anti-ruling party divide in India, there are many doctors who are ‘anti-corona’ believers. Beware – their logic is only <2% of population is infected and mortality is also <1%; but visualize the possibility that if we become one of that unfortunate miniscule population of those infected then!!!

 

A glaring piece of advice which even the medical fraternity would be unaware about – zinc has no value unless the right salt form is consumed. Only zinc acetate followed by zinc gluconate are documented the best bets amongst the array of zinc-containing products to enhance immunity reliably. Zinc sulphate, zinc citrate and many such others only provide psychological assurance that zinc is being consumed – these do nothing to the viral load or the virus!

    While agreeing with you on the information overload coupled with the enormous amount of half truths floated by all and sundry , often fanned by the media and medical fraternity seeking TRP's and publicity respectively, let me point out that there has been fear and paranoia spread among lay population. This has been counter productive Further there was never a debate within the Governments and society leaders based on rational and scientific principles. Most of the last few months have given enough indication that covid can be managed without unduly panicking. I would still be inclined to believe the failure of the medical profession to be more professional and ethical , wait for data to come in , and then strategize the management of the pandemic.
    The lay public should not have been made to face the often contradictory recommendations by doctors , disease control experts and Governments.In this , let me add, other nations, mainly the US , has also been faulty.
