DISSECTING PERSONALITIES
THE 'A' vs 'T' SUBTYPES
Dear Reader,
Employers have been using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) self-reporting questionnaire, or its variants, in fixing criteria for hiring; even eligible bachelors and maidens visit these whilst zeroing on their life partners. In MBTI theory, the four categories are introversion/extraversion, sensing/intuition, thinking/feeling and judging/perceiving. According to the MBTI, each person is said to have one preferred quality from each category, producing 16 unique personality types.
The 16 MBTI types are typically referred to by an abbreviation of four letters - the initial letters of each of their four type preferences (except in the case of intuition, which uses the abbreviation "N" to distinguish it from introversion).
For instance:
ENTJ: extraversion (E), intuition (N), thinking (T), judgment (J)
ISFP: introversion (I), sensing (S), feeling (F), perception (P)
The 'A' and 'T' subtypes, also known as Assertive and Turbulent, are sometimes added to the MBTI to further refine personality descriptions. The Assertive and Turbulent subtypes in each personality differ in their emotional reactivity and how they approach stress and decision-making, with 'A' being more confident and 'T' being more emotionally reactive.
